JAMB DECIDES CUT OFF MARK

*JAMB DECIDES CUT OFF MARK*
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board on Tuesday pegged the minimum cut - off mark for admissions into universities at 120 .
The decision was taken in collaboration with Vice Chancellors , Rectors and Provosts of higher institutions in the country at a combined policy meeting on admissions into universities , polytechnics and other higher institutions in Nigeria , in Abuja , on Tuesday .
The stakeholders also adopted 100 as the minimum cut -off mark for admission into polytechnics.
They agreed that admission into first choice universities should close on October 15 while December 15 , 2017 was set as the closing date for second choice admission by institutions .
JAMB Registrar , Prof . Is -haq Oloyede said universities , with the decision, are not to go below the minimum 120 cut -off points adopted by the meeting for admissions .
He called for the adoption of flexible cut -off marks for admission processes by higher institutions in the country .
He said , “What JAMB has done is to recommend ; We will only determine the minimum , whatever you determine as your admission cut -off mark is your decision.
“The Senate and academic boards of universities should be allowed to determine their cut -off marks .”
The Registrar said the board discovered over 17 ,160 illegally admitted students by higher institutions , adding that the body has regularized some of them .
He said , “30 % of those in higher institutions do not take JAMB or have less than the cut - off marks .
“The admission process is now automated with direct involvement of the registrar of JAMB for final approval .
“We have agreed to regularize admissions that were done under the table this year . From next year we will not accept anything like that. ”
Minister of Education , Adamu Adamu described as a mistake, the Federal Government ’s ban on tests conducted by universities after the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations .
He explained that post-UTME was banned because it had become an avenue for corruption .
Adamu however encouraged higher institutions to conduct aptitude tests for candidates seeking admission , and pegged the fee for the test at N 2000.

The 2017 JAMB official cut-off marks

The 2017 JAMB official cut-off marks

The 2017 JAMB official cut-off marks
for Universities, Polytechnics and
Colleges of Education are expected
to be announced at the end of the
policy meeting that will be held
between August 21st and 22nd, 2017.
It is true that JAMB cut-off marks for
the various institutions have
remained the same in the recent
past; however, a change can happen
this year.
Do not forget that this will be the
first time professor Oloyede will be
presiding over the decision on cut-
off marks and with the changes he
had made so far in other areas, it
won’t be a surprise if he makes
another change on this one.
Also, the return of Post-UTME may
in one way or the other influence
the decision on 2017 cut off marks.
While we await the official
announcement of the cut-off marks,
this thread is for 2017/2018 UTME
candidates to predict what they
think would be the possible JAMB
cut-off marks for admission this
year.

BUHARI'S SPEECH DURING HIS 7 MINUTES NATIONAL BROADCAST TODAY MONDAY 21ST AUGUST, 2017

BUHARI'S SPEECH DURING HIS 7 MINUTES NATIONAL BROADCAST TODAY MONDAY 21ST AUGUST, 2017

My dear citizens, I am very grateful to God and to all Nigerians for their prayers. I am pleased to be back on home soil among my brothers and sisters.

2. In the course of my stay in the United Kingdom, I have been kept in daily touch with events at home. Nigerians are robust and lively in discussing their affairs, but I was distressed to notice that some of the comments, especially in the social media have crossed our national red lines by daring to question our collective existence as a nation. This is a step too far.

3. In 2003 after I joined partisan politics, the late Chief Emeka Ojukwu came and stayed as my guest in my hometown Daura. Over two days we discussed in great depth till late into the night and analyzed the problems of Nigeria. We both came to the conclusion that the country must remain one and united.

4. Nigeria's unity is settled and not negotiable. We shall not allow irresponsible elements to start trouble and when things get bad they run away and saddle others with the responsibility of bringing back order, if necessary with their blood.

5. Every Nigerian has the right to live and pursue his business anywhere in Nigeria without let or hindrance.

6. I believe the very vast majority of Nigerians share this view.

7. This is not to deny that there are legitimate concerns. Every group has a grievance. But the beauty and attraction of a federation is that it allows different groups to air their grievances and work out a mode of co-existence.

8. The National Assembly and the National Council of State are the legitimate and appropriate bodies for national discourse.

9. The national consensus is that, it is better to live together than to live apart.

10. Furthermore, I am charging the Security Agencies not to let the successes achieved in the last 18 months be a sign to relax.

11. Terrorists and criminals must be fought and destroyed relentlessly so that the majority of us can live in peace and safety.

12. Therefore we are going to reinforce and reinvigorate the fight not only against; elements of Boko Haram which are attempting a new series of attacks on soft targets kidnappings, farmers versus herdsmen clashes, in addition to ethnic violence fuelled by political mischief makers. We shall tackle them all.

13. Finally, dear Nigerians, our collective interest now is to eschew petty differences and come together to face common challenges of; economic security, political evolution and integration as well as lasting peace among all Nigerians.

14. I remain resolutely committed to ensuring that these goals are achieved and maintained. I am so glad to be home.

15. Thank you and may God bless our dear Nation.

-President Muhammadu Buhari, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Admission Update: Check Your O'Level Subjects Combination For Admission Screening I will always do this for humanity. With my experience on this blog, I got to know that, so many UTME/Direct Entry applicants could not gain admission not because they failed, but because they lack guardian. They don't know what are the necessary things to put in place to pursue a successful admission into Nigerian Universities. Its on this ground that I created this blog, to put you, him and the next generation in order. This is a guide for you. Back to the matter.... Two days back, I wrote and listed the necessary documents you needed to put in place before your school's admission screening. If you are yet to read it. CLICK HERE to see all you need to gain admission. First on my list was Your O'Level result with five credits passes. But do you know its possible to have 5, 6, 7 or 9 O' level credits and yet you are not qualified for admission even when your JAMB score is 320? I know you will ask how possible? This is very possible, it happens always, and this may even be the reasons why you have been denied admission several times in the past years. What Is The O'Level General Requirements For Admission The O' Level general requirements is simple and I think its Known to you and I. its known to everybody that 5 credits O level passes in relevant subject is the requirement, which must include English and Mathes. But do you know all courses in the University have their own specific O' Level subject combination's requirements? Its is very easy to have 5 credits, but difficult to have five credits passes in relevant subjects. For those of you that usually combine science with art plus commercial in your SSCE, this is the time you are likely to face serious problem, because at the end of the day, you will find out that you have no five credit passes in relevant courses. Eve though your result shows 9 credits. Courses Specific O'Level Requirements For Admission JAMB too its time to explain and list it out in details for all courses. There is a difference five O level combination for Law, for medicine, for Islamic studies, for Engineering, For Accounting, Yoruba, Masscom, Business administration and all that. They are all different and you must meet up with the O'level requirements of your course before you can be offered admission to that course. Its is on this ground that, all Universities also follow the guide from JAMB concerning subject combinations for O'Level. So you can't pass their admission screening, without having a proper O level as required. Have you ever bring out your O'level result and check weather your Subject combination In WAEC, NECO, NAPTEB can give you admission into the course you applied? If NO, am sorry, I don't think you are preparing for screening. UNIVERSITIES CAN NOW CONDUCT POST UTME*

*UNIVERSITIES CAN NOW CONDUCT POST UTME*
Adamu

The Federal Government has lifted the ban on
the conduct of post-UTME examinations by
universities for admission seekers after the
Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations
(UTME) by the Joint Admissions and
Matriculation Board (JAMB).
This was revealed in Abuja by the Minister of
Education, Adamu Adamu, saying that
Universities, Polytechnics and other
institutions were free to organise post-UTME
screening as a pre-condition to gaining
admission into public institutions.
Recall that Adamu, at a combined policy
meeting on admissions to Universities,
Polytechnics and other higher institutions in
Nigeria, held in Abuja, June last year, banned
the examination.
Announcing the change, Adamu explained
that the Federal Government scrapped the
examination in order to fully understand what
was going on in the institutions but added
that the government was now wiser regarding
the conduct of the examination.
He urged the institutions and its authorities
to make the fees for the post-UTME screening
affordable in order not to impose huge
financial burdens on parents.
“We are going to allow universities to have
some choice. Universities can now decide to
organise post-UTME, if they want,” Adamu
stated.
“We have asked them not to impose huge
financial burden on the parents. The burden
should not be more than what they can
bear.”
He expressed confidence in the examination
conducted by the Joint Admissions and
Matriculation Board (JAMB) and hailed the
management of JAMB for remitting N5
billion to the Federal Government, saying the
money was the highest so far in the last 40
years of JAMB’s existence.

ASUU Strike: FG confirms negotiations with Lecturers

ASUU Strike: FG confirms negotiations with Lecturers

The Federal Government has confirmed that it is in talks with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), after it embarked on an indefinite strike.

ASUU commenced an indefinite strike action across the nation beginning Sunday, August 13

The Director of Press, Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs. Chinenye Ihuoma, told newsmen that negotiations were ongoing between it and the union on the issues arising from the 2009 agreement and the MoU of 2013.

“If it is on ASUU, just know that the FG/ASUU renegotiation 2009 is ongoing with the government team under the leadership of Dr. B. O Babalakin (SAN),” she said.

The committee, headed by Babalakin, was given the mandate to dialogue with the ASUU, Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) and Non-Academic Staff Union of Associated & Allied Institutions (NASU) to ensure sustainable peace and industrial harmony in tertiary institutions.

ASUU Begins Indefinite Nationwide Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has commenced an indefinite nationwide industrial action.

The National President of the union, Dr. Biodun Ogunyemi, announced this on Monday during a meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU in Abuja.

He said during the strike, there shall be no teaching, no examination and no attendance of statutory meetings of any kind in any of the union’s branches across the country.

Dr. Ogunyemi declared a total, comprehensive and indefinite nationwide strike after a nationwide consultation with members at an emergency NEC meeting held on Saturday, August 12, 2017.

He explained in a statement issued after Saturday’s meeting that their decision followed the failure of the government to fully implement the 2009 FGN-ASUU Agreement and the 2013 Memorandum of Understanding.

The ASUU president added that related demands made by the union were yet to be addressed, which was why they resolved to embark on an indefinite strike from Sunday, August 13, 2017.

JAMB disclosed that it has sent to all institutions a soft copy of printout of candidates who chose them.
“This year, the Board has sent candidates who scored 100 and above in their JAMB to the institutions in its flexible admission policy for institutions to determine the suitability of the candidates in compliance with all laid down rules and regulations as determined by the proprietors of the institutions and approved by Senate of the various schools.
“The Board will ensure that criteria set by Senate are strictly adhered to by the institutions’ admission officers and no shifting of goal posts in the middle of the admission exercise.
“This is to guarantee fairness and equity to all candidates.”

Breaking News: Gov. Yahaya Bello, Kogi CP Storm House of Assembly, Stop Plenary From Holding

Yahaya Bello, the Governor of Kogi State, and Wilson Inalegwu, the State Commissioner of Police (CP), on Tuesday locked up the Kogi State House of Assembly Complex to prevent plenary from taking place.

According to Daily Post, a source who spoke on the matter, the development was an attempt to halt the planned removal of the Majority Leader of the House, Matthew Kolawole, who is said to be a staunch supporter of the state governor.

The source further said the State Commissioners of Justice and Finance; Mohammed Ibrahim and Idris Asiwaju, were also slated to testify before the House of Assembly how the state government utilized the bailout funds and the two tranches of the Paris-Club loan refunds received from the federal government.

He said: “The Kogi State House of Assembly is locked as we speak. Governor Yahaya Bello and the State Commissioner of Police stormed the complex this morning with some officers and thugs invited by one Hon. Bello who represents Ajaokuta State constituency to lock up the premises in order to prevent plenary from holding today.

“The reason is not unconnected to the perceived failure of the plot to impeach the Speaker and replace him with the Majority Leader who is a staunch ally of the governor. But, the Speaker himself having control of the House, has also staged a counter plot to have the Majority Leader removed today.

“Also, the governor has paid some arrears owed workers and pensioners in the state with the funds received from the federal government. However, the House had planned, today, to hear from the Commissioners of Justice and Finance how the funds were expended by the state before this incident happened.”

Commending on the incident, opposition youth leader in the State, Austin Okai, described the action of the Governor and the Police Commissioner as a plot to truncate democracy in the State and institutionalize autocracy where in the legislature is suspended from carrying out its constitutional responsibilities.

He said: “This is unheard of anywhere in the world that members of the Executive arm of government will physical storm a legislative complex in the company of security operatives in order to prevent legislators from doing their job.

“It is impunity in its highest form and must be put to a stop before it leads to an oppressive regime.”
