JAMB registers over 1. 5 million candidates

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) said it had so far registered 1.5 million candidates for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) across the country. The Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, disclosed this in an interview with the newsmen on Saturday at side line of activities marking the pre-JAMB mock examinations.

It will be recalled that the JAMB mock examinations earlier scheduled to hold on Saturday May 8 had been postponed to ensure smooth conduct of the exam. Oloyede said: “So far, it has even been better than our expectation, it was a mock, the intention was to test the technology and it proved to be perfect. “I think from what we are seeing, we are more than ready for the main examination. “At least 90 per cent of the examination centres have reported positively, there have been proper downloading and preparation; even after the exam we had uploaded responses of 80 per cent. Cross section of candidates during an exam “We have done it to show that what works elsewhere across the world should work in Nigeria; we believe we can do it efficiently; we will continue to do our best. “We have registered over 1.5million candidates in less than five weeks; we believe that the reality we have put in place is good enough.’’ Oloyede said that 633 centres were used to conduct the mock examination for 153, 000 candidates across the country. In separate interviews, some of examination centre coordinators and candidates lauded JAMB for the mock initiative geared towards equipping the candidates to do better in the main exam. Mr Abdul-Aziz Olasoyinka, Technical Research Officer of Digital Bridge Institute, commended JAMB for the mock examination. He said it was apt in terms of preparation for future exams. Olasoyinka said: “Mock is a good experience because it will help the candidates to adequately prepare for the forthcoming examination. “It helps to evaluate how well the candidates have prepared and to improve themselves ahead of time.” Mr Olajide Adisa, Director of Outstations at JAMB, said although there were 230 capacities at the Computer Based Test (CBT) centre, plans were on to upgrade to 250 them before the main exam. “Even with that our specification is that at least we should have 10 per cent of same capacity as back-up in case of any breakdown. “We have already put measures in place to test them in the course of the mock examination, they will be ready before the main examination,” Adisa said. A candidate, Miss Hadiza Abdullahi, told NAN that the mock examination had improved her level of confidence ahead of the main exam. She described the examination as encouraging, adding that she expects to sit for the main examination well-equipped. Abdullahi, however appealed to the board to put measures in place to enable candidates wanting to register for future exam to do so with ease. Neswmen report that the mock examination held in three sessions, including the JAMB headquarter and CBT centre in Kogo community.

The 2nd Mock Exam to test how prepared JAMB is for the coming 2017 UTME, which starts from 13th May, is finally here.

We will monitor all Mock Exams Nationwide from here, so that those who didn't have the opportunity to write Mock will be updated, and those who wrote somewhere else will also be updated with more experiences too.

....
Please come back every minute to this post to check the latest comments updates about the Mock exam, so you too can gain experience for the Main Exam

Remember that the 1st Mock Exam was a total disaster on JAMB's Part as all their systems totally crumbled to pressure.

This is the 2nd, and maybe the final chance JAMB has to show they are ready to conduct the 2017 UTME, without hitches.

Even though the Mock exam is designed to test JAMB's Exam Systems, it's also an opportunity for JAMB candidates to have first hand knowledge of the new technologies put in place for the 2017 UTME.

The board had earlier talked about introducing a New JAMB Exam Format for 2017 UTME, and had also specified that JAMB Scraps The Use Of Mouse, Adopts “Eight-Key Device” System For 2017 CBT Exam. We will see if all that will come into play in the Mock Exam.

All JAMB Mock Candidates, Please use the comment section to update us every inch of the way, especially if you encounter any issues during the process. This is a Live Updates thread, so let us know when you get to your center, and if at all there is any delay or problems experienced during the process.

Please let us know the State and Centre location you are reporting from, so that JAMB officials looking at this thread can take notes.

Remember that mobile phones are not allowed into the hall, so don't use the updates of this thread as an excuse to take your phones into the hall. You can let us know your experience after the exam.

While in the hall, please take note of everything;
1. Check if there are actually CCTV Cameras
2. Check if the systems are special in anyway (maybe if there's no mouse)
3. When you login to take an exam, check how the CBT environment is laid out.
4. Where is the time Located, Where are your Subject Navigation Located, Where are the Question Numbers Located, e.t.c.
5. Check if you can use both Keyboard and Mouse (Remember JAMB said you can now use only Keyboard).
6. Check the time given for the exam
7. Check the number of questions given.
8. Remember that JAMB said typing "S" on the keyboard means you want to submit. Be careful!

Ensure you keep your items safe! Your phones, bags, money e.t.c. Please note that not everyone, who comes to the hall came for the exam. Some people are just natural thieves. They steal at every opportunity.

Just update us as much as you can, and we will appreciate every bit of information you pass across. We will create a thread for detailed experiences later in the day.

Goodluck!

Waraje's role in the development of the plot of the play"The blood of a stranger"is significant and important. She is in love with Kindo and also a stranger in Mandoland too.She has lived there long enough to detest being called a stranger. She was not born in Mondoland, her mother was taken prisoner by one of the mando warriors. Her mother then ran away after given birth to her.

Beneatha the only daughter of mama, though has a conflicting relationship at times with Mama because of their many differences but it is not a strained relationship. For instance after her mother slaps her for blasphemy.Beneatha later hugs and thanks her mother for understanding her dismissal of George. She clearly loves her mother even if they do not always agree.
Both brother and sister also loves each other and looks out for each other. For instance Beneatha stops Mama from beating Walter on the head after he gambles away with their money.

The little "Ambush" in the poem written by Gbemisola Adeoti beams light on the theme of frustrated dreams. The poem is started with significant metaphors to portray this as theme as predatory animals are used as imagery to show the despair in th dreams of the people in the nation.
The first stanza uses a giant whale to portray the disappointment and aborted dreams that the people experience in a nation. The giant whale is said to"swalow","the sinker, with hook line and bait" leaving the fishers (people)with no hope of good catch, thereby fraustrating their dreams.
The second stanza uses"sabre-too thed tiger" as a metaphorical expression to signify the fear to achieve a dream or venture into new possibilities of a fulfilled dreams. The third stanza uses "giant hawk"to show the unceasing disaster thats wait patiently for the people.
In conclusion therefore,"ambush"is a poem that ast aspersion on the honesty of a nation in fulfilling the dreams and hopes which has been frustrated in the past years. The hope of an ambush will eventually open the door of possibilities.

Ogeyi is Aloho’s friend and confidant.
Aloho lives with Ogeyi in her small
apartment in Pannya. She tries to
discourage Aloho from taking
Ochuole’s job offer and warns her to
keep away from Ochuole. She seeks justice for Aloho by reporting Chief to
the police. She is the voice of reason
in the play.

i)Beneatha feels entitled to become a doctor. When that may be taken away from her, she has no response other than to give up on helping others. Beneatha wants to be a doctor because she has a desire to heal.
ii)Ruth constantly fights with Walter. Her family's peace is further upended when she finds out she's pregnant. Ruth considers an abortion to maintain peace in the family she already has.
iii)Mama makes a rash decision to prompt Walter to stand up and be a man, which proves unwise. Mama buys a house in an all-white neighbourhood to provide a home for her family. And again Mama wants Walter to stand up and be the man of the family In Other words Mama and Ruth want to provide peace for their families.

The use symbolism is to derive its message, the sources of the conflict explored in the poem are represented symbolically by Piano and Drums in other words Personification, Imagery, Alliteration, Simile, Diction, are the symbol in the play,Okara’s metaphors are simple but fitting: the drums represent traditional African life, while the piano represents the Western world.

Section D

12)
The theme of endurance,is a constant backdrop for many of Frost's poems. The speaker of "Birches" never sees a boy or comes across one. He only imagines one, and the boy that he does imagine is himself at a younger age. The boy seems to be similar to William Wordsworth and Walt Whitman's portrayals of boys. These boys have their own rules and wisdom that they can pass on to the older men and women around them. They are ready for adventures in nature and represent the wild, untamed state of "man" that remains good and moral even though no one is there to govern him. The speaker's loneliness may be the result of adult concerns. and considerations.

JAMB ANNOUNCES EXTENSION OF REGISTRATION OF 2017 UTME

JOINT ADMISSIONS AND MATRICULATION BOARD

JAMB ANNOUNCES EXTENSION OF REGISTRATION OF 2017 UTME

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board wishes to apologise to candidates and
other stakeholders. We could not go on with the Mock Examination and hereby
announce extension of registration exercise of the 2017 UTME. Instead of the
earlier announced April 19, the deadline for the sale of forms and registration will
now extend to Friday, May 5, 2017. Consequently, the 2017 UTME has also been
postponed to start on Saturday, May 13 – 20, 2017.
Meanwhile, the Mock Examination earlier slated for Saturday, April 8, 2017 has
been put on hold. This is because the appropriate rehearsal and test-running of the
new system has been substantially achieved. The plan was to trial-test the readiness
of our facilities and address the challenges that may likely confront the main
examination. The Mock Examination remains free for willing candidates, even the
fee due to the CBT centre Owners are being paid by JAMB. No cost to the
candidates
At this moment, we have realized that the plan to hold this Mock Examination was
good for us. We are now in a better position to achieve better than we would have
done without this trial testing. This is why the exercise is at no cost to the
candidates.
It is our strong conviction that this exercise is an experience for us. Our systems
analysis has revealed interesting findings that will engender a seamless and successful
2017 UTME exercise.
On behalf of JAMB, we use this opportunity to appreciate our stakeholders,
including the candidates, for being part of this experiment. Every disappointment is
a blessing, an old adage says. The blessing that will trail the suspension of this Mock
Examination and extension of registration deadline will manifest in our main UTME
by next month.
Once again, we appreciate and apologise to the candidates who chose to participate
in this free and voluntary Mock Examination. They are part of our experience
towards ensuring a fruitful and successful UTME this year and in future. Emmanuelnewz.blogspot.com.ng

NEWS BREAKING: Court frees 44 IPOB members, dismisses charges against them Published April 25, 2017

Simon Utebor, Yenagoa
A Yenagoa Magistrate’s Court in Bayelsa State has freed 44 detained members of the Indigenous People ‎of Biafra.
The Presiding Magistrate, Penawei Mukoro, on Tuesday, dismissed the three counts of conspiracy, breach of public peace and unlawful gathering levelled against them (suspects) by the police.
The magistrate, who noted that the case against the detained 44 IPOB members had a ‘no-case submission’, subsequently discharged and acquitted the accused persons.
The 44 IPOB members were arrested in October 2016 while meeting at a popular bar/lounge in Okaka area of Yenagoa, the state capital, by operatives of the Joint Military Task Force, codenamed Operation Delta Safe.
The suspects were later handed over to the police authorities for investigation and prosecution.
But the counsel for the IPOB members, Mr. Kingsley Nwosu, had argued a ‘no-case submission’ before the court, describing the arrest and trial of his clients as a deliberate attempt to intimidate and violate the fundamental rights of people to freedom of assembly.
Nwosu said the prosecution, the Nigeria Police, failed to produce a credible witness to substantiate the three counts against the IPOB members.Emmanuelnewz.blogspot.com.ng

She however refused the separate bail applications filed by the the IPOB leader’s co-defendants.
The accused persons charged along with Kanu and who were denied bail by the judge were the National Coordinator of IPOB, Mr. Chidiebere Onwudiwe; an IPOB member, Benjamin Madubugwu, and a former Field Maintenance Engineer seconded to the MTN, David Nwawuisi.
The court also in a separate ruling rejected the application by Kanu and two of the co-defendants seeking the setting aside of the court’s earlier order granting protection to prosecution witnesses to enable them to testify behind a screen or in mask as well as using pseudonyms to refer to them during proceedings.
Kanu who had been in detention since 2015 was granted bail on Tuesday following the application filed by his lawyer after part of the charges filed against them were struck out by the court.
Justice Nyako noted that she had observed that Kanu was always having to sit down in the dock whenever he appeared in court, a development which she said could be an indication that he could be suffering from an ailment that could not be treated in prison.
She therefore granted bail in the sum of N100m with three sureties in like sum.
The judge ordered that one of the sureties to be provided by the defendant must be a highly placed person such as a senator.
She directed that the other must be a highly recognised leader in the religion being practised by Kanu.
When asked by the judge in the course of reading the ruling, Kanu said he was practising Judaism.
The third surety, according to the judge, must be a resident of Abuja and who must have a landed property in the Federal Capital Territory.
The court fixed July 11 and 12 for commencement of trial.
Meanwhile, Governor Ayodele Fayoseof Ekiti State was at the Federal High Court in Abuja to solidarise with Kanu on Tuesday.
Fayose was already seated in the courtroom for over 30 minutes before Kanu and his co-accused were produced in court by prison officials at about 10.05am on Tuesday.Emmanuelnewz.blogspot.com.ng

2017 UTME – How To Confirm Your JAMB UTME 2017 Registration

Here is a post which is going to give you an easy step by step guide on how to confirm your 2017 JAMB registration. This post is to help those who want to be sure they have completed the registration process.
As we all know, the JAMB 2017 registration process is set to come to an end on the 5th of May, 2017. It is very important for candidates to be sure that they have been fully registered before this date, and also confirm there is no problem with their registration details.
The best way to confirm if you have fully registered for the 2017 JAMB UTMEexaminations is via an Email from the JAMB portal. Though, for so many reason you might not want to depend on this mail, and in truth not everyone gets this confirmation mail, as sometimes emails fail to be delivered.
When is the JAMB UTME 2017 re-printing of slips going to begin
Many candidates have been in search of this information, and it is no surprise. The re-printing was originally scheduled to begin on the 25th of April 2017, but that date is not realistic any longer. Since registration is set to continue till the 5th of May, 2017, one should expect the re-printing process to begin after. This is most likely to be on the 8th of May, 2017.
Though this is only an assumption and not the official date, we are going to be updating once the information is officially released.
Step by step guide to Confirm your JAMB 2017 Registration
Follow the procedures below….
1. Visit the official JAMB UTME portal at
2. Login with your email address and password.
3. Click on “My Usage”
4. Check the column that says “RESOURCE” to see if a role for “2017 Registration” or something close to that is written there.
5. You can also check to see if a JAMB Registration number has been assigned to you.
Thats all.

3a) Land:

3 b )
i ) Land is a Primary Factor of Production
ii) Land is a Passive Factor of Production
iii)Land has some Original Indestructible
Powers
3c)-Fishery purposes: Land is used for fishery in rivers, seas and oceans. Fish ponds are also developed
- Wildlife purpose: Land is used for wildlife conservation, e.g game reserves and national parks.
-Livestock purpose: Land is also used for livestock production (I.e rearing of animals), e.g cattle, sheep, goat, poultry, e.t.c
-Farming purpose: Land is used for the cultivation of both food and cash crops, e.g maize, yam, cocoa, etc.

6a)Inflation is the rate at which the general level of prices for goods and services is rising and, consequently, the purchasing power of currency is falling. Central banks attempt to limit inflation, and avoid deflation, in order to keep the economy running smoothly.

-discretionary fiscal
6bii)

______________________________
7a) Economic development can be defined as efforts that seek to improve the economic well-being and quality of life for a community
7b) -dependency on agricultural sector
-illiteracy
-production for self-consumption
7c)
-Currency Strength
The value of the U.S. dollar compared to other foreign currencies such as the yuan, yen and the pound is important even for companies that do not import or export goods. Consumers have a choice to purchase goods or services originating in the United States or in other countries. If the U.S. dollar strengthens, companies in the industry that purchase inputs from other countries are able to be more competitive in pricing. In industries that are heavily reliant on foreign raw materials and processing, such as the clothing industry, the entire sector can be lifted or depressed with a strengthening or weakening of the dollar.
-Government Intervention
Many industries are regulated by the government in one form or another. Government agencies such as the --Environmental Protection Agency, the Food & Drug Administration or the U.S. Department of Agriculture maintain standards that all operators in an industry must follow for the safety of consumers, employees, or natural resources. Some industries are more heavily regulated than others and new laws and rules can shake up an entire industry and depress growth. For example, new child toy safety laws implemented under the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act in 2009 threatened to wipe out many small toy producers as the requirements to test and certify the toys were cost-prohibitive to all but large toy manufacturers. Proposed changes to the Act may help alleviate the burden on small manufacturers and resellers.
-Environmental Impact
Economic growth in an industry can be impacted not only by the environmental effect the products or services have but also by consumers' perceptions of that impact. For example, the market for fur apparel declined drastically over the course of a few years in the 1990s when consumers perceived that raising and killing small animals for their fur was both inhumane and a poor use of land. Although the industry is once again picking up with international demand, the number of fur farmers in the country has substantially declined. If the public views an industry's products or services as being harmful or unsafe, most companies within the sector can experience a marked decline in sales quickly.
-Overall Economic Health
The economic state of the country
confidence can also spur growth and development or harm it. In recessionary times, consumers begin limiting their purchases to the essentials, foregoing luxury or big-ticket items. Companies also scale back production, hiring and the development of new products and services to ensure that their finances can weather the storm. In periods of overall economic growth, these companies once again expand.
8ai)- Increased exports.
-Make use of surplus raw materials.
8aii) -Restrictions on immigration
- cross-border investment are abolished.
8b) A common market, or single market, have advantages including consumers have more choice and lower prices.
Disadvantages of the common market include that monopolies may be formed.

“N20m Was Spent To Hack JAMB Registration Portal” – Suspect

Some suspects who were allegedly caught while perpetrating certain irregularities in the ongoing registration for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations have reportedly confessed to spending over N 20 m to construct a radio platform with which they hacked into JAMB ’s registration portal .
Saturday PUNCH had reported that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps arrested no less than five individuals who had deployed fake biometric capturing machines to register applicants .
The Spokesperson of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Dr . Fabian Benjamin , in a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday, said, “These registration thieves deployed fake biometric capturing mechanisms and super -imposed registration slips just to satisfy the curiosity of innocent candidates that their registration was successful .
“And on the day of examination , such candidates ’ data would either be edited, or not found on the JAMB data base .
“Such candidates would not be verified during the examination proper . ”
Benjamin disclosed that the fraudsters were arrested variously in Oyo, Ogun and Maiduguri by officers and men of the NSCDC and brought to Abuja .
During their interrogations in Abuja , Benjamin said, the suspects gave startling revelations of how they conducted their operations .
While being paraded in the presence of the Commandant –General of NSCDC, Abdullahi Gana Mohamadu , the fraudsters confessed to numerous registration infractions that JAMB couldn’t imagine,” Benjamin said.
