no-cut-off-marks-announced-yet-says-jamb/

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it has yet to release cut-off marks for placements into tertiary institutions for 2017 academic year, contrary to speculation by some Nigerians. The Head, Media and Information, JAMB, Dr Fabian Benjamin, made the clarification in a statement made available to newsmen in Lagos on Tuesday.

He said that the policy committee meeting responsible for the determination of cut-off marks had not met. JAMB logo According to him, it is in the best interest of candidates and other critical stakeholders to jettison cut-off marks for the various courses that are currently being paraded. `”We want to appeal to all candidates to jettison such speculations and engage themselves in more meaningful ventures that would add value to their future,’’ he said. Benjamin said results of the just concluded 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) had since been released, with a few others still being previewed. “”We want to appeal to Nigerians to understand that such candidates whose results are being previewed may not necessarily have participated in any malpractice. “But rather, centres where they sat for the examination had issues during the conduct of examination. “”These issues were reflected on the CCTV footage and this suggests why they must be carefully investigated before releasing such results,” he said. According to him, a very disturbing and unfortunate case is that of a school in Abia where cables were seen to have been connected secretly to a distant hall for hired mercenaries to write for candidates. “This is very unfortunate given the fact that the school is a missionary school and supposed to be a leading light against such vices. “But, rather, it was conniving, supporting and indeed championing the evil course of examination malpractice,’’ Benjamin said in the statement. He said such results would be treated in accordance with the provision of the law. According to him, a task force has been inaugurated by the Registrar of the board, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, to look into all such issues and has since concluded the review of the CCTV footages and other evidences presented. He said that the task force would forward its reports to the appropriate quarters for the scrutiny and onward release of all remaining results. “We urge candidates to note that no result will be withheld without a cogent reason as this explains why we are taking time to ensure that those who are innocent are exonerated. “Again, candidates are advised not to patronise any centre, office or shop for any service; please visit our offices in all the 36 states of the Federation and FCT for any complaint, enquiry or assistance. “This is also because our attention has also been drawn to an illegal centre being operated near our Ikoyi Office in Lagos with the aim of defrauding innocent candidates. “This centre collects all kinds of fees in cash for services that are even free. The general public should note that payments for any of our services are done via our TSA account with CBN and not cash. “Anybody or group of persons requesting for cash from you is not from us,’’ the statement read.

Not For Student Only!! 5 Effective Ways To Read And Remember Everything

It is one thing to read a book and another to remember everything you read. A lot of motivation is lost when you read a book only to find out that you cannot recall what you read even at the shortest period of time. It is a common event among many students and this has led to the conclusion, “If I read, I’ll forget because I have low retentive memory”.

This statement is however not true! Yes, no one has low retentive memory.

While some forget everything they read, others can recall it easily.

Have you ever wondered why this happens? A lot of students who fail examinations have reported they do read but forget everything they read which is why I have decided to write this article. Trust me, if you can follow this article to the end and put the guidelines into action, your retentive power will surely increase.

1. READ TO KNOW AND UNDERSTAND
Your mindset when reading speaks on whether you will remember or forget what you are reading. A question you should ask is, “What should my mindset be while reading? “.

The answer to this question is the key to unlock your hidden power of remembrance. Your aim of reading should be to gain knowledge. You may want to ask, “Am I not aiming to gain knowledge while reading? Of course you are!. But, you are gaining knowledge only to pass examination!

Many reader who are yet to discover their hidden power of remembrance have the mindset of reading in order to pass their examination which makes them to cram rather than understand the content of the book. As a result, they forget everything they read immediately after the examination which has led to a common saying among students when you ask them questions, “I was taught last term/session, I have forgotten”.

“Therefore, change your mindset while reading. Read to gain knowledge, make sure you understand the concept of what you are reading and don’t just read to pass an examination”

2. DO NOT SKIP A SENTENCE
Students regard some of the information in a book as “story” and decide to skip them. This is common especially when reading for examination. Before you can understand and remember what you read, just have to read enough.

The secret is, “The more you read, the more you understand and the more you remember” . You cannot read four sentences and expect to know five. So, neglect the belief of regarding some of the content of a book as story because
there are hidden secrets in every sentence!

3. WRITE IT DOWN
Research has proven that writing down what you are reading helps you to remember more. After reading for several minutes, try to write down everything you have read without looking at it(Writing it in your own word is allowed). This will help you to know the part you don’t understand, so you can go over it again. This is a very effective method which I have been using for quite a long time and I am sure it will work for you!.

4. EXPLAIN IT TO YOURSELF
If you have been forgetting what you read, it is because you either crammed it or you did not understand. After reading for a while, try to explain to yourself, it will help you to know if you really understand the concept of what you are reading.

5. TAKE A BREAK
Readings for 10hours without taking a break does not make you a bookworm but I’ll rather call it a waste of time. Yes, a waste of time!. Your brain is a biological organ and not a machine, it also gets tired. Effective reading habit should be cultivated as it is more yielding. When I say effective reading, after reading for 1-2hours, you tend to lose concentration when your brain gets stressed.

Don’t force yourself to continue reading but just take reading but just take a 10-30minutes break depending on you until you feel relaxed and good to go again. After the break, try to recall everything you have read before the break, then you can proceed with your reading.

JAMB VOWED NOT TO RELEASE CANDIDATE RESULT IDENTIFIED IN CCTV

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board on Thursday vowed not to release results of candidates identified in footages of Close Circuit Television (CCTV) to have indulged in unwholesome practices during the just-concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
JAMB registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, who spoke as guest on a Channels Television current affairs programme, Sunrise Daily, said his agency had been busy in the past days reviewing recorded footages of the examination across the country, and that a number of candidates had been marked out for sanction.
Mr. Oloyede, a professor of Islamic Studies, was responding to a question by one of the anchors of the programme on why some candidates were yet to receive their results despite promises by JAMB to release outcomes within 24 hours.
The registrar said, “Those who have not received (their results) are qualified not to receive for now. In all cases where there were no problems, we released results of the examination within 24 hours.
“But those who have not (received their results), they may not be culpable but we are investigating. Where we have reason to doubt anything or where we have report of anything that is not acceptable to us, we have withheld the results.
“And we will keep on releasing them as we clear them. For instance, this morning, we released another 15,000 results. But among those who sat in that centre, we have reasons, concrete evidence to say about 300 of them, their results will not be released because we know they were not in the hall where the examination took place.
“We are comparing those who sat for the examination, how long they sat in the hall, and how some of them took excuses that they were going to the toilet only to go to what they called VIP…
“All this we are now able to track. And we want to say that we will not hesitate to sanction anybody no matter how highly placed.”
Mr. Oloyede said the CCTV cameras deployed at every Computer Based Test (CBT) centres across the country he

JAMB releases 1,048,914 results, extends registration, vows to eliminate fingers print in 2018

JAMB releases 1,048,914 results, extends registration, vows to eliminate fingers print in 2018

The Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, yesterday in Lagos said that out of the 1,648,429 million candidates writing the ongoing UTME, the results of 1,048,914 have been released. This was just as he also announced the extension of JAMB’s portal for registration, adding that it will finally close its registration portal on 28th May. He said that in addition to the 1,048,914 results that have been released, over 30,406 results are also ready for upload before midnight today. He said: “As at today, 1,648, 429 are taking our examination and we have released the result of 1,048,914. That is the result we have released up till yesterday. “On the first day, we released the results of Sunday because anything you call CBT, the results are ready, but for environmental reasons, we do not release the results immediately. “That is to ensure we go through the CCTV camera to see whether there are report of malpractice and prevent the situation whereby those who do not pass become agitated at the CBT centres. “We have released the results of Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and we are going to release today’s result before 12 midnight. This morning, the results of 30,046 will be release. Asked the performances of candidates results so far, he said: “The candidates have not done badly from the resrults released so far.” As soon as the last person finished writing the last paper today, we will upload additional over 30,406 results before 12 midnight today.” Oloyede, also disclosed that JAMB’s portal for registration has not closed, adding that it will finally close its registration portal on 28th May. He said that he got the mandate from the Senate few weeks ago to increase the UTME registration period by one month, which according to him will elapse on 28th of May. “As I speak, we have registered additional 1,100 candidates,” he added. Oloyede who disclosed during this during his visit to one of the CBT Centres in Lagos said that in 2018, fingers print may no longer be required. He explained: We have now been able to catch those people who registered two people with the same names. The impersonator and the one being impersonated went in collaboration with the CBT centres after screening them.” He said: “Both the impersonator and one being impersonated used each fingers. While, the impersonator used two thumb fingers, the impersonated used eight fingers to register. Thus, we have ten registered fingers and the ten fingers were not from one person. “In some centres, when we tested all their fingers, we discovered that they were impersonator who had used two of their fingers thumbs in both hands. “By next year, we may not use finger print, there are other technologies whereby with the technology, everything about the candidate is captured. We need to move in that direction.”

Advantages
-The biggest advantage of
privatization is that once a
privatization is done completely
there is no interference from
political leaders and also one does
not need to do undue favor to them
which in itself is a big boost when it
comes to doing business and
increasing profitability.
-It increases the overall efficiency
and reduces the bureaucratic
culture which is the main culprit
because typically in government
organizations work happens at its
own leisurely pace which results in
delay in decision making and
therefore reduces the effectiveness
and competence of public sector
enterprise.
-As far government is concerned it
has also benefits from doing
privatization because majority of
governments all over the world has
fiscal deficit and by doing
privatization government can reduce
fiscal deficit to an extent, however
full control is possible only when
government control its unnecessary
expenditures.
Disadvantages
-Private companies do not care
about the society and their main
motive is to earn profits, which is
with contrast to government
companies which keeps doing social
work and therefore if privatization
happens it will result in fewer funds
for society because private
companies have no obligation to do
social work.
-Privatization also affects the
employees because in private sector
enterprises there is emphasis on
performance which indirectly results
in work pressure and meeting
deadlines or targets and individuals
who have been doing work for years
without much pressure find it
difficult to adjust to new setting and
many end up resigning from their
service.
- In privatization there is a risk that it
may take decisions of starting a
project which results in short term
benefits but may not good for long
term.

Why I’m relocating my ministry to Israel – TB Joshua

Why I’m relocating my ministry to Israel – TB Joshua

Nigerian Prophet T.B. Joshua declared his
intention to leave Nigeria and relocate his ministry to the nation of Israel.
Speaking at his church service on Sunday 30th April 2017, Joshua disclosed that he had just returned from the ‘Holy Land’ after holding meetings with three prominent Israeli mayors of Jerusalem, Tiberias and the Jordan Valley.
TB Joshua said Israel offered him both land and facilities in an area around the biblical site of the Sea of Galilee for the Nigerian Pastor to organise meetings for international pilgrims.
“This is where my Father in Heaven came from – it’s non-negotiable,” Joshua explained, adding it was not a decision he undertook lightly.
“It’s the best place for you to meet Prophet T.B. Joshua. After your healing, blessing and deliverance, you can move around all the spiritual monuments which will establish your faith,” he clarified.
Joshua said his decision to leave was not connected to the “persecution” he endured during his ministry.
TB Joshua said the move would help people to “appreciate” what his ministry had been contributing to both the local economy and Nigeria’s international image.
“This is the most persecuted ministry in the world. Who are the people persecuting the ministry? My people, Africa.
“That is why I choose to live a lonely life. If you want to see me, come to this church. I don’t go out. It has not been easy – because I don’t know who is a friend or who is an enemy.
“If you learn T.B. Joshua is not around, I am in a revival. I live in the church here. I don’t have a house outside.”
“Anytime you pray, remember Africa in prayer. Many heroes and great people have been chased out of Africa. There are many geniuses in the Western world who are originally from Africa.”
The cleric pointed to the example of heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua who was allegedly turned down by Nigerian sporting authorities when he wanted to represent the country.
“What happened to me from the beginning of my ministry is enough to chase me out of this country – but I am still in your midst. Upon the persecution and hatred. I decided to follow the path of love.
“You show hatred; I show love. When I go for a revival, you will see the stadium full but I am not carried away by that. I leave where I’m celebrated to live where I’m persecuted.”
The cleric then advised congregants: “Where you are not celebrated is the best place to stay, to get strength. When you are in the midst of a battle, you are building yourself.
“That is why I decided to stay where I am not celebrated here in Nigeria. When the grace of God is amid challenges, it gets stronger.”
“Your life can preach a better sermon than your mouth,” he exhorted the congregation, stating that the Israeli officials had observed his ministry from afar before inviting him.

How Nigerian boxing officials rejected Anthony Joshua Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/05/nigerian-boxing-officials-rejected-anthony-joshua/

Jeremiah Okorodudu, a former boxing champion, has revealed how boxing rave of the moment, Anthony Joshua, was rejected by Nigerian boxing officials nine years ago. Anthony Joshua Joshua caught global attention and became a darling of boxing fans Saturday night after he humiliated Wladimir Klitschko, at the Wembley Stadium in England. Speaking with UK Sun, Okorodud recalled that nine years back, Joshua’s efforts to represent Nigeria at the 2008 Olympic Games were futile as the Nigerian boxing officials turned him down. He said, “Joshua was in Nigeria once to connect with his roots and I think that was in 2007. “He wanted a chance to compete for trials ahead of the 2008 Beijing Olympics qualifiers, but he was denied and not given a chance. “Disappointed, he went back to England to represent Great Britain. “He went on to win a gold that could have been a first for Nigeria at the Olympics. “If only they had allowed him to compete for Nigeria, that gold would have been a Nigerian gold and not Great Britain’s.” Another Nigeria coach at the time, Adegboyega Adeniji-Adele also confirmed the fact that Joshua was at the Nigerian camp. “Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua is his name and his family come from Ogun state in Nigeria,” he said. “When he visited, his intention was to represent Nigeria at the Olympics but he was denied in the trials. He had no other option than to go to Britain. “It’s Nigeria’s loss, Britain’s gain. Personally, I feel sad that they let him go and those people should be made to explain why it was impossible to give him a chance.”
